From 21 to 23 August 2023, we held our annual conference in Melbourne at the Legends room at the MCG, which made for an amazing backdrop throughout the conference.
Attendees were welcomed on the first morning by FYG Managing Director Peter Mancell who did the usual conference housekeeping, before turning over to Jesse Vermiglio of Holley Nethercote for the first session. Jesse covered the quality of advice review, and the increasingly important areas of privacy and cyber-security.
After morning tea, the next session was taken by FYG General Manager, Andrew Wootton, who moderated an adviser Q&A with Thabojan Rasiah, Bridget Carroll and Nick Barrett. This format is often the most requested due to the interest in adviser’s stories, and again proved to be an interesting session thanks to the experiences of the advisers.
After lunch, the first afternoon session was taken by David Swanwick from Dimensional, who is DFA’s client communication expert and took an informative session and Q&A across client communication and presentation.
The final session of Day 1 was taken by Graham Lennon from the FYG investment committee and Peter Mancell, who discussed the intricacies of the FYG model portfolios, along with recent changes and the thinking and research behind them.
At the end of the day the group took advantage of the location to enjoy a guided MCG tour, before dinner and drinks capped off Day 1.
The first session of Day 2 was taken by Crawford Ross and Stephen Carter from Macquarie. The pair discussed the importance of the client experience and why it matters to financial firms, along with how it can help with client referral and growth.
Kylie Denton of Performance Advisory Group was next up with an engaging presentation on mastering your operating rhythm, to ensure a good work life balance and how to best prioritize workloads.
After lunch, the first presentation was an update on the LivePreso client presentation tool by Aaron Cooper of LivePreso.
Next up was Shannon Nutter of Vanguard, who looked at Vanguard’s research on how Australia retires and the opportunities for advisers to help clients achieve retirement goals.
The final session of the day, directly following afternoon tea, was by Peter Mancell, who discussed business estate planning.
Day 3’s first session was an information session covering general FYG business, including updates on FYG’s WealthEye CRM, this was taken by Peter Mancell, Andrew Wootton and Jason Fowler.
The final session of the day, and the conference, was taken by Kevin Bailey AM, founder of The Money Managers and co-founder of Shadforth Financial Group. Kevin took an engaging session on building an intentional business, using examples from his history in the financial advice sector.
With FYG Planners conducting more online workshops, it was great to catch up in person again. Attendance, engagement and feedback were all very strong. FYG would like to thank all speakers for the quality of their content, and all attendees who made it a successful conference. We look forward to seeing everyone again at our next conference in 2024.
