From 25 July to 27 July 2022 we held our national conference in Cairns at the Crystalbrook Bailey Hotel, and it was great to be back together again for the first time since Sydney in early 2020.
It was a well attended event, being our first post Covid physical conference, with multiple online conferences and workshops in the interim.
As always, Bob Fowler kicked off the event, welcoming many new faces who had joined FYG since 2020.
The whole morning of Day 1 was taken by Dr Adam Fraser with sessions on sustaining our wellbeing and performance, which was an extremely well received and engaging session and workshop.
After lunch the first afternoon session was an update on FYG’s transformational IT project, taken by FYG Executive Director Jason Fowler and General Manager Andrew Wootton.
The final session of Day 1 was taken by Dale Scally, Regional Director, Practice Management at Dimensional Fund Advisers who presented on the Dimensional Global Advisor Study Insights and the key findings for FYG advisers.
Dinner that night was held at Little Sister.
Day two kicked off with a double session from Kylie Denton from Performance Advisory Group. First, Kylie focused on the “Daily Habits of Highly Successful People”, then after morning tea looked at “how to prioritise when everything’s important”. Key topics to help every time crunched adviser.
The final morning session was taken by Andrew Braun from Netwealth who presented on a new way to think about Australian investors.
After lunch, Andrew Wootton moderated a Q&A with FYG adviser Michael Sheekey of ATC Advisers who discussed client feedback and getting a better understanding of what clients are looking for.
The final session of the day was taken by Andrew Inwood of CoreData who discussed the granularity of data.
The nights activities were a sunset cruise followed by dinner at Dundee’s Restaurant.
Day 3 kicked off with an FYG update from Managing Director Peter Mancell, with FYG IT Manager Melissa Coffey and Finance and Compliance Manager, Narelle McAllister.
The second session of the morning was case studies on the value of advice taken by Peter Mancell with Glenn Hilber & Daniel Mikhail.
The conference was rounded out by Shan Chung, Client Development Manager, Macquarie Virtual Adviser Network who looked at The Successful Advice Firm Blueprint.
Attendance, engagement and feedback were all very strong, being it was the first in person catch up across the group since 2020.
