On the 16th & 17th of September 2019, we held our national conference in Brisbane at the Pullman Hotel.
Reflecting the continued growth and enthusiasm within our AFSL and its client first mindset, there was a strong attendance at the conference.
Bob Fowler opened the conference, welcoming four new advisers, David Rae of Federation Financial, John Belkner of Plan FSI, Jacek Klukowski of Steady Wealth Financial Planning & Simon Shepherd of Providence Advisory Group. Conference attendees also included several firms considering FYG Planners as their new AFSL.
The first session of the conference was taken by David Haintz of Global Adviser Alpha. David spoke about why good advisers have little to fear in the post Hayne Royal Commission world.
Up next was Eleece Quilliam from Invesco Consulting who took a session on communicating the meaning of value.
The final session of the morning was with Robert Novy-Marx, from the University of Rochester who presented on ‘Betting against Beta’.
After lunch, Thabojan Rasiah took an ‘adviser story’ session, where he presented on his journey as an adviser. This was a very well received presentation.
Kyleigh Perkins, national technical manager at CommInsure took the group through considerations with default insurance coverage.
In the final session of the day, Scott Hay-Bartlem from Cooper Grace Ward Lawyers took an engaging session on changes in estate planning.
Day 2 started with FYG Managing Director Peter Mancell taking a session on delivering a great client experience.
Up next were FYG General Manager, Andrew Wootton and Fiducia’s Danny Maher, who led a discussion on FAESA education requirements.
Christoph Schnelle, of In Your Interest Financial Planning, followed by delivering an interesting presentation on the consequences of changing commission rates.
For the final sessions of the afternoon, Peter Mancell, and fellow FYG director, Jason Fowler, took the group though ideas to be shared among advisers and new developments at FYG.
FYG management were extremely pleased with the standard of content presented from all internal and external sources. Feedback from external presenters was strong.
The next FYG Planners conference will be in Sydney during March 2020.
